Program Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes


 The OBE Framework for the BSABE Program 


The  OBE Framework  is a  paradigm shift from traditional education system into OBE system where there is greater focus on program and course outcomes; student-centered teaching and learning activities; regular assessment and evaluation and continuous improvement of the program.  The course learning outcomes are anchored from the students outcome which are based from the program educational outcome to meet the mission of the Institute.  Each level of the Outcomes are being continuosuly assessed and evaluated at the course level using outcome based assessment  and instruments (OBA) such as exams, quizzes, reports, case studies, designs, feasibility srudies. The OBA is based on the outcome based teaching learning (OBTL) activities of the students in each course comprising the Outcome based curriculum (OBC) which is the BSABE Program. At the program level, the OBC is assessed either by local accreditation or by international accreditation institutions. Recently, the BSABE program was subjected to the Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). The BSABE program of IAE –UPLB has passed the AUN QA accreditation with a grade of 5 out of 7 with overall quality assurance implemented for the programme between better than adequate to best-in-class Of the 15 criteria, 11 were rated “better than adequate” or “best-in-class” especially in expected learning outcomes, program structure and content, student quality, support staff quality, staff development activities, output, and stakeholder satisfaction. At the institutional level, it could also be subjected to local accreditation or by international accreditation institution. One feature of the framework is the feedback mechanism for continuous quality improvement (CQI) of the program implementation. All stakeholders (students, teachers, employers, industry partners, administrators) are consulted for the improvement of program implementation.









1.   Engage in teaching agricultural engineering subjects for HEI, consultation, inspection, testing and evaluation, investigation, agribusiness ventures and management services on agricultural and biosystems technologies, facilities and equipment and other related fields


2.   Holding managerial or supervisory positions in public or private institutions involved in design, farm operations, processing, manufacturing and marketing, irrigation, soil and water conservation systems and facilities, agricultural waste utilization systems and facilities, and renewable energy systems utilized in the farm; and other related agricultural and biosystems engineering facilities and equipment



3.   Holding leadership in research and development, training and extension work, and consultancy services on agricultural engineering facilities/ services, systems and technologies for safe water and food, renewable energy, a stable environment, and products and processes.







(a) Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve engineering problems

(b) Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data


(c) Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability, in accordance with standards


(d) Ability to function on multidisciplinary teams

(e) Ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems


(f) Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

(g) Ability to communicate effectively

(h) Broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context


(i) Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning

(j) Knowledge of contemporary issues


(k) Ability to use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

(l) Knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments


(m) Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural-heritage”
