AFSD curricular programs

The Agrometeorology and Farm Structures Division offers academic programs leading to a Baccalaureate Degree in Agricultural Engineering majoring in Structures and Environment and a Masters Degree in Agrometeorology.

For both the BS and MS degree, the student has the option to choose from the following fields of research:

  • Agrometeorology / Meteorology
  • Structures and Environment
  • Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture, and
  • Waste Management and Energy

The MS in Agrometeorology is an interdisciplinary field of study which relates the elements of atmospheric environment with agri-business operations. It is designed to prepare students to deal with the weather-related problems affecting agricultural activity from the long-range planning to the daily operations. These include among others:

  • The selection of the production sites for a given crop or livestock, or of crop and livestock for a given site;
  • The problems concerning cultural practices, such as irrigation, row spacing, timing of pesticide application, transplanting;
  • Microclimate modification and control;
  • Utilization of wind and solar energy for agriculture;
  • Crop Simulation Modeling;
  • Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing Applications; and
  • Agmeteorological Instrumentation.

The MS in Agrometeorology is being implemented in accordance with the existing rules and regulations of the UPLB Graduate School.

The program is open to holders of BS degrees in Agriculture, Forestry, Biology, Engineering , Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry or related courses.

To qualify for the degree a student must satisfactorily complete eighteen (18) units of core and major courses, a six (6) unit thesis, and at least nine (9) units of cognate courses.
