ABE 30. Introduction to Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

Nature and scope of agricultural and biosystems engineering; professional opportunities in the Philippines. 1 hr class. Credit 1 unit. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite: None.

ABE 31. Engineering Shop

Machine tools; welding and foundry. 4 hrs (1 class, 3 lab). Credit 2 units. Offered 1st and 2nd semester. Prerequisite: Junior standing or COI.

ABE 40. Machine Design for Bio-Production Systems I

Fundamentals of machine design as applied to bio-production systems. 8 hrs (2 class, 6 comp). Credit 4 units. Offered 1st and 2nd semester. Prerequisite: ENSC 12 and ENSC 18.

ABE 41. Agricultural and Biosystems Power Engineering

Sources of energy and power in the farm; energy conversion and conservation; power units. 6 hrs (3 class, 3 lab). Credit 4 units. Offered 1st and 2nd semester only. Prerequisite: ENSC 15.

ABE 42. Machinery for Bio-production Systems

Construction, operation and maintenance of crop production machinery; testing and calibration. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 2nd semester only. Prerequisite:  ABE 41 and concurrent with ABE 40.

ABE 47. Electrical System Design for Agricultural and Biosystems Structures

Generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electric power in the farm. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st and 2nd semester only. Prerequisite: EE 1 and ABE 11.

ABE 49. Agricultural Engineering Law, Specifications, Contracts and Ethics

Agricultural engineering law; preparation of agricultural engineering contracts and specifications; engineering ethics; intellectual property rights.1 hr (class). credit 1 unit. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite:  COI.

ABE 199. Undergraduate Seminar

Review and discussion of current literature in agricultural engineering. Reports are required. 1 meeting per week. May be taken twice. credit 1 unit. Offered 1st and 2nd semester. Prerequisite: Senior standing.

Introduction to soil-vehicle mechanics; tractor-implement relationships. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 computation). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite:  ABE 42.

ABE 136. Design of Biomass Energy Systems

Biomass energy resource calculations; design of biomass energy conversion systems. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite:  ENSC 15.

ABE 137. Design of Solar Energy Systems

Principles of solar energy collection; design of solar collectors and systems. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite:  ENSC 15.

ABE 138. Design of Wind and Micro-Hydro Systems

Wind and micro-hydro energy resource calculations; design of energy conversion systems. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 2nd semester only. Prerequisite: ENSC 14 and ENSC 16.

ABE 140. Machine Design for Bio-Production Systems II

Design of machine elements and systems; limit dimensioning; materials and processes; dynamic loading; creative design. 7 hrs (1 class, 6 comp). Credit 3 units. Offered 2nd semester only. Prerequisite:  ABE 40.

ABE 142. Agricultural Mechanization

Principles and practices in agricultural mechanization; mechanization management. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 computation). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite: ABE 42 and IE 150.

ABE 143. Manufacturing Processes

Equipment and procedures in foundry, heat treatment, forging, welding, metal cutting and presswork. 3 hrs (class). Credit 3 units. Offered 1st semester only. Prerequisite:  ENSC 18.

ABE 145. Soil Machine Mechanics

Classical and critical state soil mechanics concepts as applied to tillage and traction. 5 hrs (2 class, 3 lab). Credit 3 units. Offered 2nd semester only. Prerequisite:  SOIL 1 and ENSC 13.

ABE 147. Mechatronics for Agriculture and Biosystems

Fundamentals of instrumentation and control engineering applied in agriculture and biosystems. Credit 3 units. Offered 2nd semester only. Prerequisite: EE 1 and ENSC 21.
